Each year about this time I get asked by potential sellers if listing their home for sale during the holidays is a good idea. The answer you will hear from most Realtors is “Of course, because only buyers and sellers that are serious are in the market.” I don’t necessarily disagree with that statement as I find it hard to believe buyers are going to be out “just shopping for a home” during December as there never seems to be enough time to fit in other obligations. That said, I do have some additional thoughts.
Most sellers do not want their home to be shown during times when they are entertaining family and friends. Coincidentally buyers also have engagements that they attend that are usually during the same time of day and week; on the weekends and in the evenings for one. Buyers and their agents need to be flexible and understanding of the sellers and their schedules. If a buyer wants to see a particular home, they will make an effort to be available when the seller can allow the home to be shown.
